Dear Valued Client,

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) has published a notice proposing to place chrome ore (HS 2610.00) under export control in terms of section 6 of the International Trade Administration Act (Act 71 of 2002). If implemented, chrome ore exports will require an export permit from ITAC before shipment.

What this means:
Government wants to support local beneficiation and stabilise the chrome value chain. Exporters should expect a permit process before exporting raw ore once the measure is in force.

What you should do now (by 31 October 2025):
Submit written comments (supporting or opposing) to ChromeExportPermit@thedtic.gov.za. Mark them “confidential” or “non-confidential.”
