This update – the 55th of its kind – contains a consolidated overview of the South African supply chain and the current state of international trade. On the COVID front, another significant decrease in positive cases was seen this week, as the third wave is finally coming to a halt. Newly reported COVID-19 infections averaged approximately 6 663 per day (↓24% from last week’s average 8 776). The total number of cases recorded in the country now stands at 2,84 million6, with the death toll continuing to rise to 84 327 (up by 1 413), albeit by a reduced number this week.
