This update – the 75th of its kind – contains a consolidated overview of the South African supply chain and the current state of international trade. Newly reported COVID-19 infections averaged approximately 2 459 per day (↓8% from last week’s average of 2 677) this week. In total, South Africa has now recorded 3,65 million6 cases, with 97 955 (up by 1 250) regrettably succumbing to the virus. Globally, the case tally now stands at 423 million infected by COVID-19, with 5,81 million people, unfortunately, losing the battle to the virus. Concerning COVID-19 vaccinations, the global total now stands at some 10,4 billion vaccine doses administered globally7, with South Africa at 31 million. New vaccinations remain abysmally low, with an ever-decreasing daily average of ~85 000 in the last seven days.
