On 19 February 2026, ITAC published the final determination to maintain anti-dumping duties on disodium carbonate (soda ash) imports from the United States of America following a sunset review. Accordingly, the anti-dumping duty on disodium carbonate (soda ash), classified under tariff heading 2836.20 originating from the United States of America, will continue to apply at a rate of 40%.
The sunset review was initiated on 7 March 2025 following an application by Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd (Botash), supported by Sappi Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd, which contended that the expiry of the duties would result in significant injury to the SACU soda ash industry.
Following its investigation, ITAC found that the removal of the duties would likely lead to a recurrence of dumping and material injury to the SACU Industry and therefore recommended the continuation of the measure. This recommendation was subsequently approved by the Minister.
